I don't know that I would necessarily say that he is outdated. Although web users are becoming more sophisticated and their expectations of functionality for web sites are increasing it is still easy to overwhelm "casual" web surfers with widgets, gadgets, and cool stuff. Mr. Nielsen is a voice for ease of use. Having developed learning sites for people that are not very experienced with web tech I have to keep their skills and needs in mind. Sometimes that means sacrificing some of the possible functions for keeping things simple to use. That does not mean that things cannot happen behind the scenes that the user does not have to see. The biggest factor is to make what you want the user to do as obvious as possible and use the technology behind the scenes to just make it happen.

Do you get the idea Mr Nielsen is worried about his diving profits wit the onset of Web 2.0 than that of the corporate entity?

He is outdated, and lost in my opinion.
